PUMPS - AIR & MORE
In Australia; nothing kills more fish than the lack of air. Imagine someone putting a pillow over your face and pushing down harder with time. This is probably how your fish feel running out of air.Darkness is the worst time as, plant matter reverse their photosynthesis and use oxygen from your water in darkness, this is why most multiple fish kills are at night or early morning.
Airpumps are more important than water pumps. Your fish will survive for days without water being filtered but they will not survive without air for any length of time.Waterfalls or fountains do not in our experience compensate for air pumps.
Air is also important in many filtrations systems. As a priority buy a good air pump and ensure your supplier has back up spares. Never buy an air pump if your supplier does not have spare diaphragm kits!
